Lt. Antonio Gary will be the first Afro-American to be Promoted to the position of the Fire Captain with the Irvington Fire Department
Antonio Gary is a Resident of Montclair with two sons Antonio Jr and Nikko. Lt. Antonio Gary and his study partner Lt. Kaimu Suggs were and currently still are the first Afro-American Fire Lieutenants Promoted in the history of Irvington Fire Department in 2006. Lt. Antonio Gary will be the first Afro-American to be Promoted to the position of the Fire Captain with the Irvington Fire Department on June 20, 2012.
Antonio also held the Position of Emergency Medical Supervisor at University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark where he recently retired after 26 1/2 years of dedicated service.
Antonio is a former member of Orange Fire Department which he left to join the ranks of Irvington where his cousin Curtis Mayo (third Afro-American hired) is also a Firefighter; it soon became a family United in helping serve the citizens of Irvington and Essex County.
