Blink And You'll Miss Something! Grid Iron Waffles Closes

Yet another change in Upper Montclair's business district

There were a lot of disappointed Mount Hebron Middle School students on Friday afternoon.

As always, groups of kids headed down to Grid Iron Waffles at 197 Bellevue Avenue after school for a snack—only to find it closed down. Indeed, although there's no sign indicating the closure, all the furniture has been removed.

The popular spot selling Belgian waffles opened in the fall of 2011 in the space formerly occupied by Sticky Buns.

It's not yet clear what happened to Grid Iron Waffles although change is common in Upper Montclair.

Just within the last few months, Little Daisy Bake Shop opened and Five Guys closed. Little Angels and Learning Express moved locations. Upstairs opened above Dai Kichi. And Jafajems expanded with the opening of Fancy That. Confused?

Upper Montclair is a popular district and always full of customers—but if you blink you are sure to miss something.

What do you think of the closing of Grid Iron Waffles? What should replace it? Tell us in the comments section below.

Disappointed that they closed but not surprised. I visited several times and the last visit was to pick up breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, a couple of sugar waffles). The eggs were completely burned and still served. You could even smell they were burned when you opened the package but surely the black crust was a tell tale sign. What a pity for a breakfast for 2 approaching $30. Maybe it was poor supervision? That was the last time I returned for breakfast, sadly.

I loved going there too and despite the burnt eggs would have eventually ventured out again for their sugar waffles (which were always tasty). Shame that it was short lived, but could it be the location? There seem to be several places thriving in and around the area. I hope something sweet lands there.
