Bloomfield Man Robbed at Knifepoint Near Light Rail Station
Duo on bikes run off Thursday night with man's wallet, iPhone
A 26-year-old Bloomfield man was robbed at knifepoint Thursday night near the Grove Street Light Rail station, police said.
The man was walking along Grove Street to the station at around 10:40 p.m. when he was approached by two young men on bikes who asked him for a dollar, according to Sgt. Anthony Servedio, spokesperson for the Bloomfield Police Department. The man gave the duo a dollar, continued walking and purchased a train ticket.
A few minutes later, the two approached the man again and demanded he empty his pockets while one brandished a knife, Servedio said. They ran off with the man's wallet, which contained identification, a Blockbuster card and some cash, as well as an iPhone.
A tracking device on the iPhone located the phone in East Orange, where New Jersey Transit police found one of the young men on Main Street in possession of the victim's Blockbuster card. The man who was robbed, though, could not positively identify him, Servedio said.
Bloomfield detectives took the young man into custody where he was turned over to the juvenile bureau. It is unclear what, if any, charges were filed, said Servedio. As of Friday, he did not know if the second young man, or iPhone, had been found.
