Burglaries: Lock Up Your Kitchen Windows And Doors

The following arrest information was provided by the Montclair Police Department and does not indicate a conviction.

Burglary

On Dec. 20 at about 12:30 p.m., a burglary was reported at a home on Harrison Avenue. The resident told police he was in his living room watching TV on Dec. 19 at about 9 p.m. when, about an hour later, he found a cell phone and a laptop computer were missing from his kitchen table. He also discovered that $250 in cash had been taken from the kitchen as well. It appears that someone got inside through an unlocked kitchen door. There are no suspects at this time.

Arrest

On Dec. 20 at about 5:45 p.m., police responded to the Morris County Jail to take custody of Anthony Cooper. Cooper, 44, of Montclair, was arrested after police confirmed that he had a warrant issued by Montclair, with bail set at $2,000.

Burglary

On Dec. 21 at about 1:50 p.m., a burglary was reported at a home on Pleasant Way. The resident said that someone had gotten inside the home on that date, sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. It is believed that the person got in through an unlocked kitchen window. The resident said that a silver necklace with diamonds and a blue Acer laptop computer, valued at approximately $215, had been stolen. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft

On Dec. 21 at about 2:55 p.m., a theft was reported from a mailbox on High Street. The victim reported that two checks had been stolen from her mailbox on Dec. 15 between 12:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. There are no suspects at this time.

Shoplifting

On Dec. 21 at about 10:35 p.m., a shoplifting was reported at the CVS on Claremont Avenue. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee, who said that a review of surveillance video showed a person shoplifting at about 10:10 p.m. It is believed that the man left the store with a basket containing a baby formula and other baby products. The man hadn't paid for these items prior to leaving.

The suspect is described as a black man, 30 to 40 years old, and last seen wearing a black cap, a black jacket, and blue jeans. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Ray Gulbin at 973-509-4739.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle

On Dec. 21 at about 11:05 p.m., a theft from a car was reported on Highland Avenue. The owner told police that she had parked her Honda Accord on that date at about 5 p.m. When she returned at about 10:40 p.m., she discovered that the passenger’s side front window had been shattered. She reported that a blue Vera Bradley bag containing a smaller Coach purse, $100 cash, and various identification documents had been stolen. There are no suspects at this time.
