Your Child Could Cook On TV!

Alma Schneider has announced a new contest for kids

Is your child the next Jamie Oliver or Rachael Ray?

Alma Schneider's Take Back The Kitchen and Montclair's municipal access channel, TV34, have teamed up to feature five local kids conjuring up their favorite recipes with an eye towards bringing the importance of cooking to the masses.

As part of a recently announced "January Kids Month," Take Back The Kitchen plans to set up a poll at the end of this month through which people can vote on their favorite recipe submissions from local children.

The submissions and the recipes that garner the most votes will be invited to make their dishes on Channel 34.

Earlier this month, Schneider announced that she planned to highlight children as part of a special January dedicated to kids and cooking.

She encouraged kids to share their favorite recipes and cooking stories with Take Back the Kitchen.

All sorts of recipes have been shared including one for Children's Cannoli made with ricotta cheese and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

"What better month than January, the beginning of the year, to model and encourage cooking behaviors for our children. The more comfortable children are in the kitchen, whether they are cooking Rice Crispie treats or roasted kale, the more likely they will be to cook in their adult lives and not feel a need to order fast food or eat frozen food from a box," Schneider said. "I believe we owe it to our children to give them a head start when they are young so they can lead as healthy a life as possible."

Take Back the Kitchen is dedicated to helping people recognize and overcome the common and unique phychological and practical obstalces to being everything they hope to be in the kitchen.

Now Schneider is hoping to get kids cooking—as well as adults! Go onto Take Back The Kitchen's website to submit a recipe!
