Montclair Police are reporting another rash of graffiti and vandalism incidents including two cases of rocks being thrown through windows.
On July 31, a woman on Willowdale Avenue reported that someone had thrown a rock through her window in the front of her house at about 11 p.m. the night before as she was watching television.
The next day, another Willowdale resident reported a similar incident, saying that a rock was thrown through a window in the front of her house at about 8 p.m.
Although no one was injured, the windows were broken.
On Saturday, a man said his car had been vandalized on the third floor of the Crescent Parking Deck. He said he parked his grey BMW 328 at 6:16 p.m. and when he returned only a short time later he found large key marks along the driver's side of the car.
Also last week, a camp staff member said someone had vandalized Essex Park on Chestnut Street. The person said all the benches had been turned over and covered in graffiti.
In addition to vandalism reports, police say they also have received several reports of graffiti.
On Friday, a case of graffiti on the tunnel entrace to the brook on Macopin Avenue was reported. There also was graffiti on a picket fence of a house and on the sidewalk as well. In all cases, the graffiti was written in yellow paint.
Also last week, employees of the Adara Restaurant on Walnut Street reported graffiti on the building.
And a resident on Grove Street said someone had spray painted the north side of his house.
Earlier this month, Montclair Police also reported a rash of graffiti incidents involving everything from playgrounds to homes.
Police say this type of jump in activity is common in the summer months.
If anyone has any information on any graffiti or vandalism incidents, they are asked to call Montclair Police at 973-744-1234.

The tone of this report does not convey a sense of urgency in terms of catching the culprits. Common in summer months? I've lived here for 19 years and never seen such a jump in vandalism, particularly graffiti tagging. Last report I read quoted the police as saying there is little they do I'm terms of punishment since the vandals are likely juveniles. Again, no sense of priority is conveyed. Why not offer a reward? I bet then someone will come forward.

I know Councilor Bill Hurlock is concerned about this... he talked about working with police on this issue at last night's community meeting.

My car was keyed at A&P parking last year but last week my entire windshield wiper was broken off. I found out when it rained and only one wiper appeared...I was local all day so it def happened in Montclair.

I do think it's pretty hard to catch the folks behind these acts.

Are these just kids with nothing better to do? I've been here over 30 years and every few years we seem to have an uptick in vandalism. Let's all just be extra vigilant and maybe the culprits will get caught.
