Edgemont Poetry Night A Success

This article was written by Edgemont fifth grader Haley Winstead.

The evening of Friday, April 27 was Edgemont's first Poetry Night. It was very successful -- dozens of students, siblings, parents and staff attended. I felt like I was part of a night of finding yourself through poetry.

I wasn't expecting we would be entertained by a professional jazz singer, Saundra Silliman. It was purely beautiful.

To close the night, our principal, Ms. Hopper, awarded the first, second and third place winners medals for the Wordmasters competition, a challenging national language arts enrichment program Edgemont participates in.

I enjoyed all of the funny poems and the serious ones too. A proud thank you goes out to Ms. O'Connor-Horton for organizing the event and Edgemont's participation in Wordmasters.

I'm already looking forward to next year's event, even though I'll be there as an alum.
