Girls Rowing Team Meets Olympic Gold Medalist Taylor Ritzel

This weekend was also the teams first Regatta of the season.

Girls on the Montclair High School rowing team met with Olympic gold medalist Taylor Ritzel this weekend.

On Saturday, students had a training session and dinner with Ritzel, three time NCAA rowing champion from Yale and winner of the Olympic Gold medal in womens 8 rowing in London in 2012.

A few months back, the team held a silent auction that made available the opportunity for some team members to meet Ritzel. The money from the fundraiser when toward a new Hudson 8 boat for the high school team.

Nine girls met with Ritzel in the high school gym for training, and talked about Ritzel's Olympic and life experiences. After the training they all had dinner with her at Tinga's in Montclair.

In addition, Sunday was the first Regatta of the spring season for the Montclair team and the first race ever for a number of girls.
