Heroin Arrest Among String Of Arrests Over Weekend

The following arrest information was provided by the Montclair Police Department and does not indicate a conviction

 

 

Arrest

On Jan. 22 at about 11:40 p.m., police were patrolling the area of Glenridge Avenue and Grove Street when they observed a Mitsubishi making a right on red without coming to a complete stop. Police stopped the car on Bloomfield Avenue and spoke to the driver, later identified as Jasmine Harrison. Harrison, 19, of Montclair, was arrested after police learned that she had warrants issued by Montclair, with bail set totaling $750, Glen Ridge, with bail totaling $1,145, and Cedar Grove, with bail set at $500. She was also issued motor vehicle summonses for suspended driver’s license, careless driving, and failure to notify change of address.

Driving While Intoxicated

On Jan. 22 at about 2:45 a.m., police were patrolling Bloomfield Avenue when they saw a Dodge Stratus driving in the parking lot of the Shell Gas Station. The car had no front driver’s side tire and the rear driver’s side tire was flat. Police spoke to the driver, later identified as Doreen Stevens, who was stated that she unaware of how the car was damaged. Police noticed the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.

Stevens, 42, of Irvington, was arrested after she failed to adequately perform field sobriety tests. She was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated within 1,000 feet of a school, failure to exhibit an insurance card, unsafe vehicle, and careless driving. She was later released.

Arrest

On Jan. 21 at about 12:40 a.m., police were patrolling the area of Bloomfield Avenue when they saw a car making an illegal U-turn. Police stopped the car in the area of Gates Avenue and Hawthorne Place. During the course of the investigation, police learned that one of the occupants, later identified as Isiah Candles, had warrants for his arrest.

Candles, 21, of Hillside, was placed under arrest after police confirmed that he had warrants issued by Somerville, with bail set at $250, Newark, with bail totaling $600, Union, with bail totaling $1,000, South Amboy, with bail set at $439, and the Essex County Sheriff’s Office. Bail for the Sheriff’s Office warrant had not been set at the time of the report.

The driver was issued motor vehicle summonses for illegal turn and violation on a provisional driver’s license.

Arrest

On Jan. 21 at about 4:10 p.m., a shoplifting was reported at Pathmark in the Lackawanna Plaza Mall. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee who reported that he had spotted a man, later identified as George Cason Jr., concealing items in his jacket and exiting the store without paying for the items. Cason was detained and found to be in possession of approximately $15 dollars in merchandise. Further investigation revealed that he was also in possession of a glassine envelope containing heroin.

Cason, 54, of Montclair, was arrested and charged with shoplifting and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Bail was set at $20,000. He was also found to have warrants issued by Montclair, with bail set at $78, and Caldwell, with bail totaling $664.
