Launching: An Adopt A Grand-Friend Volunteer Program
Program will pair Montclair High School students with senior citizens.
Attention seniors in Montclair: Do you need help with your lawn/garden, air conditioners, snow removal, or major household chores? Then sign up for the new "Adopt A Grand-Friend" volunteer program co-sponsored by the Montclair High School Mounties Football Team and the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee to the Township Council.
If you are interested, come out from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 3 for a meet-and-greet between the football players and seniors, all part of the program's kickoff at the Furlong Field House on Essex Avenue.
Most likely, students and seniors will be paired up based on the distance they live from each other.
New MHS football head coach John Fiore has made community service a top priority and will urge players to participate. He said students might also be able to help senior master computer and Internet skills.
For more information on this year-round community service initiative and to register, contact Councilor Kathryn Weller-Demming at 973-454-4506. Weller-Demming serves as the council liaison to the SCAC.
