Local Talent Featured At Hat City Kitchen

The Martin Briley Band and The Mar-Tays are both performing Saturday night, Jan. 21

Only last week did this Montclair Patch editor discover a great new nighttime gem: Hat City Kitchen. Not only does it boast great food and drinks, while being nestled in one of the oldest buildings in Orange, New Jersey, but Hat City Kitchen also offers a great array of live music.

And coming up at Hat City Kitchen on Saturday night, Jan. 21 are some local favorites from Montclair and Bloomfield who will be playing there.

At 9 p.m., check out the Martin Briley Band which features some of New York City's top studio musicians including Ira Siegel (guitar/vocals), Frank Vilardi (drums), Doug Hall (keyboard/vocals), and Matt Anthony (bass). Together the Martin Briley Band performs original songs that are gritty, and yet sophisticated, pop gems.

Briley is probably best known for his Top 40 and MTV hit single from the 1980s, "Salt in My Tears." Since then, he has become one of the most prominent writers in America. He has received orchestral commissions and written for TV ad jingles. So far his songs have appeared on almost 30 million records, recorded by artists such as Celine Dion, *NSYNC, Kesha, Dream, Skye Sweetnam, Michael Bolton, Kenny Loggins, Pat Benatar, Jessica Andrews, Jeff Healey, Rebecca St.James, Gregg Allman, Barry Manilow, Barbie (!), and many more.

Afterwards, at 10:30 p.m., stay on to hear another fantastic group.

Consisting of some of New York City's finest recording and touring musicians, The Mar-Tays are regulars on the New York club scene. Members of the Mar-Tays have recorded or performed with artists as diverse as Simon and Garfunkel, Whitney Houston, Hall and Oates, Bette Midler, Peter Allen, Beyoncé, Jennifer Holiday, and Luther Vandross, to mention just a few. Their unique blend of blues and rock forged by thousands of hours of recording sessions and concerts combined with the soulful singing of Martee Lebow breathes new life into the classic songs they perform. The Mar-Tays are proud to announce the release of their long-awaited first CD this spring.

The Mar-Tays include Martee LeBow (lead vocals), Vilardi (drums), Siegel (guitar/vocals), Irwin Fisch (keyboards), John Siegler (bass/vocals), and Larry Saltzman (guitar/vocals). The group will be joined by its backup vocalists Dana Calitri, Curtis King, and Carolee Goodgold.

Seigel, Hall, and Vilardi all live in Montclair, and King lived in Montclair until recently. Briley, Calitri, and Anthony are all in Bloomfield, making the Hat City Kitchen gig a pretty local affair.
