Mayor Jerry Fried has told the Montclair Times that he will not be running for mayor again.
In a statement to the Times, he said: "These have been difficult years, but Montclair has weathered the storm and the future looks quite good. Although the cutbacks and layoffs have been wrenching, we are well along the path to our future economic sustainability."
Fried is the third incumbent to announce he will not run again in May's election.
After taking petitions to run again, both 2nd Ward Councilor Cary Africk and 3rd Ward Councilor Nick Lewis announced that they actually would not run again.
More on slates and the local election later Wednesday night on Montclair Patch.

"we are well along the path to our future economic sustainability."
20% of taxes go for debt service. Thanks a lot.

And that quote is why we are in economic trouble. Maybe he'll enroll in an ECON 101 class at MSU. Thanks for not running again. More poison removed for the good of Montclair.
