The Mounties baseball team won the 80th annual Greater Newark Championship, 2-1, over Nutley on Sunday.
It was Montclair's first GNT win since 1963 and its first appearance since 1969.
Montclair took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Ben Hamilton drove in shortstop Eli Kashi. Eliott Gertner made the lead hold up throughout the game, not surrendering a run until the bottom of the seventh, when a Mountie shortstop error allowed Nutley to score its first run of the game.
Because of Sam Ackerman's sixth inning RBI, Montclair still held a one-run lead and staved off a late Raider rally, getting a diving catch from Brett Cooper with the bases loaded. Gertner struck out five batters in the Montclair win.
