Patch Best Of Montclair List For 2010
We asked the Montclair-based Patch writers and photographers for some of their favorite spots for this and that, and here are a few of their responses.
It may not be akin to the Suburban Essex Magazine's exhaustive Best of Essex 2010 readers' choice awards, but we've come up with a pretty decent Patch Fave list anyway. After surveying a dozen or so Montclair-based Patch writers and photographers, here's our list of the Best Of Everything (at least in our opinion). It's not perfect, so do let us know what you think! But if you are looking for a handyman or a hairdresser or even a psychotherapist, you've come to the right place.
Fave Handyman/Plumber:
Griff at New Horizon Enterprises at 973-667-8856 or 973-493-7543. ("Sometimes we break stuff just so he can fix it.")
Sam Currie at Christian Carpenters at 973-735-4136. "This guy is not only a great handyman but also a good plumber ... if he can't fix something, he'll be straight with you. And the price is more than fair."
Fave Chiropractor:
Pete Haigney at 973-746-7766
Fave Takeout:
"I DREAM about the grilled chicken pitas from Beyond The Pita on Church Street."
Fave Delivery:
Pahang Asian Cuisine, Malaysian, in Verona. Free delivery. Call 973-239-6669. "The food is the best!"
Fave Hairdresser:
Salon Organic on Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair
Erica at Parlor
Jacquie Della Rosa at Steve De Luca's salon on Bellevue Avenue. "She's a terrific hairdresser and colorist and will have you laughing so hard you're in tears when you leave—no matter what mood you're in. She's fantastic."
Fave Psychotherapist:
"Really, I'm not kidding, I've been to several therapists and she's my fave ... Jean Cote at 49 Park Street in Montclair."
Fave Ice Cream:
Applegate Farms mint chocolate chip.
Fave Vets:
Dr. Faith Krausman, Vet on Wheels. 973-744-1442. "She makes house calls..."
"Dr. George Cameron (and his staff) is not simply the best vet in Montclair, he is the St. Francis of Montclair—no, I'm not even (hardly) exaggerating. His work ethic and compassion have no equal."
Fave Last-Minute Gift Go-To:
Semplice ... "no matter the occassion, they always find the perfect gift and wrap it so you're in, out, and on your way in 10 minutes."
Jafagems on Valley Road in Upper Montclair ... "they have an assortment of gifts and will wrap them in a lovely little box as well."
Fave Girls' Clothing And Gifts:
Hip Chic on Bloomfield Avenue
Fave GP:
Dr. Edward Krupp at 98 Park Street ... "when I just moved here and was sick he was the only one who would see me without already being a patient and he hasn't let me down in six years."
Fave Exercise Class:
Angel's step and sculpt classes at NYSC
Fave Yoga Studio:

Fave Hardware Store:
"I love American Royal Hardware at 251 Park Street in Watchung Plaza. No matter what I bring to them, they can answer it and help me make a repair. They never make me feel like the clueless homeowner I am and they give alternatives to everything from plumbing questions to front door locks. The store also carries everything from firewood to coin purses amidst the hardware supplies. It's the perfect low-key answer to Home Depot."
Fave Wine Shop:
Home Wine & Liquors, 360 Bloomfield Ave., Verona, which gives you a 20 percent discount on Tuesdays if you buy a case of wine.
Fave Computer Repair:
Catcom Computers on Valley Road at 973-233-1888.

Fave Tea Place:
Fave Coffee:

Fave Restaurant:
Impossible! Even so, Osteria Giotto gets a lot of votes.
Fave Massage:
Terry Andino's at Montclair Massage Therapy
Fave House To Drive By:
"That big yellow one on Bellevue Avenue ... go down toward Bloomfield ... it's the one on the right ... the big colonial with a barn behind it."

How about Fave Deli - Alan's Ave Gourmet Delicatessen & Caterer has been @ 405
Bloomfield Ave for 20 years. Their famous Montclair Avenue sandwiches are incredible and I can never pick my favorite salad Alan makes. I do know my favorite hot dish is his meatloaf stuffed with spinach and cheese topped with a bit a red sauce. I bet a lot of new people in town don't even know he is over by the Welmont Theatre and they are surely missing out!

Laura and Dot Reeder are great! No question about that.
For best wine store, Sharon and Amanti Vino are just fabulous. Great wines, great knowledge, lot sof care for the customer.
Can't forget David and Focus Physical Therapy for physical therapy. They put me back together AND they take insurance.
Haven't tried Smashburger, but as long as Elevation burger continues serving organic burgers, they've got my vote.
Best restaurant? Passionée, hands down. Awesome and Michael is a great guy.
Favorite massage… Andrea at Healing Zone Annex on the MTC/Verone border.
