Report: Rutgers Offers Darius Slade Football Invitation

Montclair High School defensive end receives unexpected offer at Scarlet-White game Saturday.

The last thing Montclair defensive end Darius Slade planned on happening when he attended Saturday’s Scarlet-White Rutgers spring football game was an offer from the New Brunswick-based school to play for the football team, a published report Sunday said.

The 6-4, 220-pound Slade told NJ.com he was called to the coach’s office Saturday to talk about his opinion of the school and left with an offer to play for the school, the second offer he has received.

“Coach Panagos and coach Cohen wanted to know my opinion of Rutgers. And I was just telling them how I am very excited about the school and I definitely was interested,” Slade said. “And I also told them that Rutgers is a top three school, or a top two because I only have two offers. But after that, they offered me. And they are definitely a school I am interested in,” he added.

“But Rutgers definitely is one of my top options,” Slade said. “Definitely a school I would consider going to. But right now, I'm just enjoying my recruitment."

Slade told the Rutgers staff that he would mull over his recruitment with his family before making any hasty decisions, the report said.
