Samba Montclair Coming to Park Street

Park Street Gourmet to become Samba Montclair

Get ready to Samba, Montclair!  Within about a month, Park St. Gourmet, which opened last December at 7 Park Street, Montclair, will be transformed into a Brazilian restaurant, appropriately named Samba Montclair!

According to Ilson Goncalves, the 30 year-old owner of Park St. Gourmet, the incredibly charming eatery, beautifully decorated of reclaimed wood, copper cookware, and silver trays, will retain their breakfast and lunch menu, but will change the signage and add an evening menu featuring traditional Brazilian fare, and weekly entertainment.

Samba Montclair will not be a rodizio-style eatery, a la Ironbound Newark.  But according to Ilson, Samba Montclair will feature Brazilian classics like feijoada, a black bean stew, typical of Brazil.

Ilson hails from Blumenau, Santa Catarina, Brazil, where he grew up in the restaurant business, but he’s no stranger to the Montclair food scene.  Ilson has lived in America for seven years, and has worked under acclaimed Montclair chef, Zod Arifai at Blu, and at Trattoria Rustica.

I was truly charmed when I walked into Park St. Gourmet, and further convinced by Ilson’s passion for the culture of Brazil, and his dedication to rustic authenticity.  I look forward to the incarnation of Samba Montclair, and suspect it will be a positive addition to Montclair’s international restaurant portfolio!
