The Next Shoe Drops: Mexicali Rose Is Closed
The Mexican restaurant becomes the latest business to shut its doors
Just days after various other Montclair businesses have announced plans to shut down, Mexicali Rose at 10 Park Street also has closed.
Indeed, signs in the window this week say that the Mexicali Rose property was seized by law enforcement officials earlier this month—and that the restaurant now is for sale.
The restaurant also was closed down last September—by New Jersey tax officials—and new signs were plastered along the window announcing that a "New Mexicali Rose" would be re-opening soon. And, indeed in October, Montclair Patch reported that a newly re-opened Mexicali Rose was completely redecorated, looking sleeker and more nuevo latino than it previously did.
But now it appears Mexicali Rose is closed for good, a move that comes just days after Watchung Plaza Home and ColorStoryHome announced they were closing.
The good news is that various restaurants have opened in recent months and appear to be doing well including Fin (opened in October), Upstairs, and Brick Lane Curry House.
Do you know of any restaurants/businesses that are opening or closing? If so, please let us know in the comments section below or email Shelley@patch.com.

Samba, across the street from Mexicali Rose, is another new place that's doing great!

And I went to Fin the other night and it was packed—and the food was great!

I don't think I need to mention my obsessoin with Samba. It's the best restaurant to open in Montclair in 2011.

and Fin is tremedous. As is Brick Lane of course. And many others. Having lived here for 15 years, I dont think the restaurant scene has ever been anywhere near as good as it is right now.

I was at Fin on Saturday. Fantastic. Though with several glasses of wine... I'm an easy critic.
