Tiny Helpers for RELAY FOR LIFE

Over The Rainbow kids raise money selling homemade jewelry and walking for a good cause

Relay for Life, a community walk to raise money for cancer research, is taking place this Friday night in West Orange -- and the '09 class from Montclair's Over the Rainbow Nursery School will be there.

Possibly the smallest alumni at the walk, the kids, now first graders, want to give back to the community and to their beloved nursery school.  This Friday marks the sixth year that the teachers' team at Over the Rainbow participated in the Relay for Life event in West Orange.

Members of the Montclair OTR class of 2009 who will be participating in the walk are: Luli Harrison, Ava Chickering, Sophie Chapman, Olyvia Okochi,Chloe Schuster, Dayton Friedberg and Julia Duren-Lubanski.  The girls live in Montclair, Cedar Grove, and West Caldwell.

To help their former teachers raise money for the event, the civic-minded alums sponsored a jewelry sale on Monday, June 13 at their former school.  Stepping back into their old classroom, the girls helped teach the current pre-school students some jewelry-making techniques and also contributed some of their own homemade pieces to the sale.  Their efforts raised $271 on Monday, and over $600 over the last two years.

This Friday night at the Relay for Life Walk, Team OTR will walk laps and cheer on the other participants.  The event will be held on the running track at West Orange High School, rain or shine, beginning at 7 pm, and continue throughout the night.  The public is invited to attend.  Register at:
