UPDATED: Truck Crashes at North Fullerton and Chestnut

Takes out stop sign, ends up in ravine

There was an accident earlier today at the corner of North Fullerton Avenue and Chestnut Street.  Police and fire trucks were dispatched after a Ditizzi work truck knocked down a stop sign before it crashed into the ravine at the southeast corner of the George Inness Annex property.

A witness reported a tow truck having to make multiple attempts to extract the truck from the ravine -- the chain reportedly broke during one attempt.

Onlookers said there were no other cars involved in the crash and that the driver of the truck was taken away in an ambulence.

The witness also said there was structural damage to the stone bridge, apparently as a result of the crash.

So lucky that none of the many students in the area weren't injured!
