What's Open, Closed On Labor Day
And some fun ideas for things to do this Labor Day weekend in Montclair!
Many of you will have Monday, Sept. 3 off work to celebrate Labor Day. So what will be open and closed on the holiday?
Banks, post offices, and the stock market are closed on Monday but most stores and restaurants are open. And the Montclair Farmers Market in the Walnut Street Train Station parking lot is open Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also open are the town's two movie theaters—Bellevue and Clairidge.
You can get away from the predicted heat at Montclair's public pools, which close for the season on Monday.
Garbage and recycling collection will be delayed a day because of Labor Day.
NJ TRANSIT will offer “early getaway” rail and bus service on Friday, August 31, for the benefit of customers leaving work early for the Labor Day holiday weekend. For more information go here.

Howard Van Vleck was born on September 4. He must have had a lifetime of Labor Day birthday parties in his honor and Van Vleck sees no reason to stop now. Join in as Van Vleck hosts the 4th Annual Labor Day Pot Luck Picnic in the Van Vleck gardens. No admission fee—just bring a lunch and a favorite dish to share. Live music, courtesy of Montclair's own The Porchistas, will be provided—along with birthday cake. Fair weather only.

End your month on a great note! Stop by Tierney's Tavern to see the Flemtones. Cover is $5.
Check out one of Montclair's new businesses such as Banker's Cafe at 295 Bloomfield Avenue. Located in the former People's National Bank at Bloomfield's corner with Lackawanna Plaza, the cafe serves Hershey's ice cream, slushies, malts, and a variety of baked goods. Further down the road, at 15 Bloomfield Avenue, the women and children's clothing store called Olea is having a clearance sale. New(ish) restaurants worth checking out include Red Eye Cafe on Walnut Street and Tuscany on Valley Road in Upper Montclair.
