Memorial Day is just a couple of weeks away. Just because you don’t have any plans for the long weekend, doesn’t mean you can’t get away for a day while staying close to home.

This week’s Readers’ Choice poll asked Patch readers to vote for their idea of a perfect “staycation.” The results were a tie between two destinations—Essex County Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark.

Tied for second place: Eagle Rock Reservation and the Woodhouse Day Spa.

Meanwhile, NJ Monthly readers recently voted Turtle Back the best zoo in the state. Visitors can get up close and personal with bears, wolves, penguins and a barn-full of farm animals. The zoo just welcomed a Komodo Dragon to its Reptile Center last week.
