'Jerseylicious:' Stylists Catfight at Salon Opening

Lombardi said he will not tolerate drama.

"Jerseylicious" stars and stylists Olivia Blois Sharpe and Tracy DiMarco simply couldn't keep their harsh words to themselves during a grand opening for the Anthony Robert Salon, as seen on Sunday night's episode of The Style Network reality show. According to The Style Network's blog, Anthony Lombardi, the Anthony Robert Salon owner, was "stepping out of the Gatsby's shadow" by expanding his own salon at its Verona location. The Gatsby, a competing salon with Lombardi and shares several employees, including DiMarco and Blois Sharpe, a Montville Township High School graduate, is located in Green Brook. Lombardi had tried a soft opening with a "Friends and Family" event that was featured on that last episode, but after that event was …

Balloon Festival: Patch Will Send You Into the Sky

Event celebrates its 30th season.

When is a balloon festival not (just) a balloon festival? That’s a tough question, especially when a huge yearly event is billed as such (I mean, it's called the Festival of Ballooning, after all) and there certainly are plenty of hot-air balloons to be displayed. Still, the Quick Chek Festival of Ballooning—in its 30th year, running from July 27 through 29 at Solberg Airport in Readington—is also part amusement park, with a healthy number of rides, an arts-and-crafts emporium, a yoga and Zumba demonstration, and lots and lots of food. Of the 30 years, Quick Chek has been a major sponsor for 20. And for the first time, Patch is partnering with the festival to get you in at a great price. Between May 13 and 20, use this link to buy tickets …

If you want a FREE close up time with the ballon, or a ballon, go to the 6:00 AM launch, but don't go into the festival. Then pick a special ballon and chase it. It will land someplace that is close to a road. The balloon people are more than happy to have you there.   more ›

Movie Review: ‘Dark Shadows’ Found Wanting

The Johnny Depp and Tim Burton collaboration, based on a 1960s gothic soap opera, has left critics unimpressed.

"Dark Shadows" opens this weekend at the Bellevue Cinema in Upper Montclair. Click here for showtimes. For those who remember the gothic soap opera “Dark Shadows,” word of the movie version starring Johnny Depp was likely welcome. Unfortunately for fans of the television series, the transition to the big screen has been judged and found wanting. In "Dark Shadows," vampire Barnabas Collins, played by Depp, awakens from a centuries-long sleep in 1972 to find his estate and empire in near ruins. Collins predictably sets out to restore the family fortune and finds himself at odds with the witch who transformed him into a vampire in the mid-1700s. Scott Weinberg of FearNet.com described the movie as a “true stinker, in Hollywood terms.” “ ‘Dark…

Don't Let The Title Fool You! MHS Stages “Urinetown” as its Spring Musical

This article was written by MHS student Faith Hill

You might think “Urinetown” sounds unappealing, but don’t let the title fool you.  This musical won Tony Awards for its direction, book, music and lyrics when it first ran on Broadway in 2002, and was called by the New York Times, “a great musical—extraordinary, hilarious, and entirely original.” It will be all that and more when presented this weekend and next by the talented cast and crew of Montclair High School’s School of Visual and Performing Arts (SVPA). The story is set in a city where a 20-year drought has created a terrible water shortage, forcing the citizens to pay to…pee. The social commentary in its off-beat plot is certainly relevant today, as it satirizes capitalism, bureaucracy, and corporate greed. Indeed, “Urinetown” …
