Monday – 4/28/2014

It’s Monday – a painful day for most people, yours truly included. Sometimes it is made even more painful as we remember just how much money we ended up spending over the weekend.

Budget

It’s one word that can make people cringe, angry and sad all at the same time, a rare occurrence indeed. There are plenty of reasons for this – people are told at work that their budgets are being cut, their ideas cannot be funded because they are not in the budget, and in our personal life, our budgets don’t usually quite match up to our desires.

Brunches are very much back in vogue right now, with virtually every major restaurant offering brunch deals, and even non-traditional brunch places (like local bar/restaurants) now offering brunch specials, it is definitely a major trend. Brunches are a great way to bridge the time between Sunday morning coffee and Sunday evening dinner, provide an opportunity for socializing with family & friends, and give people a reason to get out of the house and have some fun on Sunday afternoon.

Doing brunch every week, especially if you enjoy mimosas and champagne with your brunch dishes, can quickly add up, even with bottomless brunch deals. With spring time, and the nice weather coming, hosting brunches at home (or outside in your yard) might be a budget friendly alternative while not sacrificing any of the fun.

Let’s look at a few tips to make this happen:

1) Make a cooking schedule that aligns all of the prepared food — things prepared at the same time and temperature make hosting brunch easier

2) BYOC – bringing your own champagne and/or asking guests to bring their own makes sure everyone has what they want, and keeps costs down

3) Decorate seasonally and simply – silk bouquets of flowers can be re-used, and coupled with ribbons and napkins, can form a very festive atmosphere.
