Community Invited to Hanukkah Candlelightings, Latkes, More in Hinck Building Atrium

Five area synagogues and alliance builder J Connection Montclair Area, invite the community to celebrate “Hanukkah Spot: A Pop-Up Miracle,” six nights of candle-lighting at 5:30pm, in the Hinck Building atrium outside the Bow Tie Clairidge Theater, 486 Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair. Festivities run from November 27 to December 4, with select nights of latkes, music and more.

The celebration, co-sponsored by Bnai Keshet and Congregation Shomrei Emunah of Montclair, Temple Ner Tamid of Bloomfield, Congregation Beth Ahm  in Verona, Temple Sholom in Cedar Grove, and J Connection Montclair, is a first for the five area synagogues and J Connection Montclair. (J Connection is a joint initiative of The Partnership for Jewish Learning and Life, the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest and the JCC MetroWest). 

The six-night run begins Wednesday, November 27, 5:30pm, with a community candlelighting and blessings by rabbis from all five synagogues. The celebration  continues:

Saturday, November 30, 5:30-7:00pm, with a short Havdalah service and candlelighting hosted by Temple Sholom followed by participants building a Menorah with canned food for Human Needs Food Pantry.  

Sunday, December 1, 4:00-7:00 pm, Bnai Keshet hosts its annual Latkepalooza for the community.  Eat piping-hot, homemade latkes to the sounds of live klezmer, crafts and a battle of the bands.

Monday, December 2, 4:00-5:30pm, Temple Ner Tamid will host, “Make Your Own Hanukkah Pop-Up Book.”  For participants of all ages. Share your most memorable Hanukkah through the creation of a personalized Hanukkah book.

Tuesday, December 3, 4-5:30 pm, puppeteer Jennifer Levine presents a special interactive children’s show, “Lickity Splickity Loves Hanukkah,” sponsored by J Connection Montclair Area’s Emmy Atlas and PJ Library MetroWest.

Wednesday, December 4, 5:30-7:30 pm, concludes with Shomrei Emunah’s Chanukapalooza, two hours of live music, a Hanukkah sing-along, crafts and homemade latkes. Participants can bring their own menorah and candles for candlelighting, if wanted. Donations accepted of unisex wrapped gifts for children or adults for the Montclair Emergency Shelter for the Homeless and Interfaith Hospitality Network programs.
