Montclair BSA Troop 12 Honors Three New Eagle Scouts

On February 7, 2014 Boy Scout Troop 12 of Montclair honored three new Eagle Scouts at a Court of Honor held at St. James Episcopal Church. The three Eagle Scouts are James Creaser, Ian Leong and Thomas Pool. In order to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the scout has to earn 21 merit badges, advance through several ranks in his troop, and complete a community service leadership project. These requirements must be completed before the scout's 18th birthday.

James is a junior at Montclair High School. He is the Drum Major in the high school’s marching band and is on two of his school’s sports teams, baseball and basketball. He is an active member of Immaculate Conception parish in Montclair where he is an altar server.

For his Eagle project, Ian renovated a memorial garden at St. James Church in Montclair. The garden houses the remains of many parishioners and is considered sacred ground by the Church. Ian and his volunteers worked 94 hours on the project.

Thomas is a senior at Montclair High School. He is on the fencing team and the track team of the school and is a Black Belt in Tae Kwon-Do. He is a member of the Model UN and Model Congress teams and interned for a recent senatorial campaign.

For his project, Thomas planted an azalea and rhododendron garden at Brookdale County Park in Essex County. Preparation of the site included removal of debris and trees. Thomas and his volunteers worked 180 hours on the project.
