Looking For A Dog? Meet Cinnamon!

Read more about Cinnamon, a resident at the Montclair Township Animal Shelter and why she is in need of a home.

Meet Cinnamon. This 7-year-old has been a long-term resident at the Montclair Township Animal Shelter, in spite of the fact that she is a sweet and fun-loving dog.

Cinnamon is often overlooked by potential adopters because, like many shelter dogs, she becomes very excited inside the kennel. When brought outside, she shows an entirely different side to her personality.

Cinnamon loves to go for walks and was one of the Montclair dogs chosen to represent the Shelter at last year’s Strut Your Mutt in New York City, an annual fundraising event sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society. She even won the title of Best Kisser out of the hundreds of dogs strolling along the Hudson River at the September event.

But Cinnamon has a torn ACL (just like some of the best NBA and pro football players), probably from jumping in her kennel because she is so excited to see friendly faces.

Several people, including local veterinarian Nancy Katz, have worked hard to negotiate a reasonable surgery cost for fixing Cinnamon’s ACL and the Friends of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (FOMTAS) --  a not-for-profit, 501c3 support group -- has offered to pay for Cinnamon’s medical fees and her aftercare.

Before she can undergo surgery, Cinnamon needs a foster home, a place to recover in peace and quiet. Anyone who has ever been in an animal shelter knows that this is not a peaceful environment.

Imagine dogs barking for attention when someone enters the kennel -- Cinnamon will join in the excitement, returning to her jumping routine. This is a sure formula for re-injuring her ACL.

What does it mean to foster a dog, especially a dog like Cinnamon? In her case, the ideal foster situation would be a home without small children or other pets. She can be great with other dogs, but since she will be in recovery, she doesn’t need the added stress of getting to know a new companion.

Because Cinnamon “shows” so much better outside of the Shelter, it would be wonderful to find a temporary home with someone who would care for her until the perfect forever family comes along.

Please note that FOMTAS has also agreed to pay for any food costs or other expenses that might be incurred by Cinnamon’s foster family.

So if you think you have a place in your home and in your heart for this lovely, loving girl who just needs a second chance in life, please contact FOMTAS by e-mail at FOMTASMontclair@gmail.com.
