Montclair Heritage Parade to Drum Up More Parade-Seekers

Similar Newark African American parade postponed due to a lack of funds.

The 25th annual Montclair African American Heritage Parade and Festival may attract more visitors this year, after a similar Newark parade had to be postponed.

The Newark African American Statewide Parade and Festival hasn’t been cancelled, but it could be rescheduled in June or September, according to The Montclair Times.

Montclair’s free parade will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m., rolling from Glenfield Park. It will travel Bloomfield Avenue toward Elm Street, along Orange Road and Cedar Avenue, wrapping up in Nishuane Park.

Parade-seekers can make the short trip to Montclair to enjoy the event’s food, music and culture. This year’s parade will feature a petting zoo, face painting and bounce houses for children.

Hillside Elementary School’s Drums of Thunder will make its annual performance at the event. Other live entertainment includes a MEMORIES meet and greet Friday in the George Inness Cafeteria and a performance Saturday by Valarie Adams & The Dimensional Band, according to the Montclair African-American Heritage Foundation website.
