Montclair Mothers Film 'Sh*t Moms of Kids With Issues Say'

Martha and Ruth post video to their 'Walk a Mile in My Issues' blog.

Meet Martha and Ruth.

The Montclair moms survived raising kids with “issues” thanks in part to each other and their shared warped sense of humor.

What do we mean by warped? Check out their first video, Sh*t  Moms of Kids With Issues Say, on which they poke fun at everything from breaking down and doing their kid's homework to the struggle of finding a babysitter willing to watch a child with issues.

The video is a companion to their new blog, Walk a Mile in My Issues, where parents and caregivers can find support, share stories, cry, laugh and not be judged by those who think their child's challenges can be blamed on lax parenting, poor nutrition or overdiagnosis.

"Issues" are loosely defined as ADD, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, dyslexia, dyspraxia, school refusal, depression, anxiety, social/emotional challenges and behavioral issues.

But surely any parent can find common ground on their blog since, as they point out, don't we all have issues?

Recent entries include “How to Drive Yourself Crazy in One Easy Lesson”, about how it’s practically impossible to do the right thing day after day for your child, to “Drop Your Sensory-Sensitive Kids at the Next APA Convention and Then Meet Me at Starbucks …” which details what really helped their kids deal with sensory overload.

The writers together have five children who are now in their 20s and doing fine. They don’t reveal their last names and use "Jimmy," a composite child, to help maintain their anonymity.

While Martha and Ruth welcome others to join the conversation, they hope to keep know-it-alls at a distance.
