Montclair Resident Completes Internship with NJ Congressman

Rachel Kass, a rising senior at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania worked in Washington, D.C. this summer as an intern to Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (NJ-11).

During her time as a Congressional intern, Kass was responsible for taking constituents on tours of the Capitol, researching upcoming pieces of legislation, and constituent correspondence.

Additionally, she was responsible for writing memos after attending House and Senate committee markups and hearings.

As an intern, Kass attended lectures by many notable speakers including NBC’s Chuck Todd, Chairman of the Federal Election Commission Lee Goodman, current Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, and House Majority Leader-Elect Kevin McCarthy, among many others.

“Having the opportunity to attend lectures and discussions complemented my intern experience and provided priceless insight into a career in Washington,” Kass said.

As an economics major, Kass found Janet Yellen’s Semiannual Monetary Policy Hearing to be one of the many highlights during her internship.

“Seeing one of the most influential players in my discipline performing her congressionally mandated duty was an experience I will keep with me for a long time,” Kass added.
