Montclair's Memorial Day Tribute Features Assemblyman as Guest Speaker

Montclair's Memorial Day tribute will feature guest speaker Assemblyman Thomas P. Giblin Monday morning at Edgemont Park.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held indoors in the event of rain at the municipal council chambers at 205 Claremont Ave.

Mayor Robert Jackson will lead the tribute and Msgr. Paul Bochicchio, of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, will deliver the invocation, the blessing of the wreaths and the benediction.

In addition to Giblin, Montclair Historical Society Executive Director Jane Eliasof will briefly speak about two World War II medals that were issued but were never presented to the two soldiers.

House Gill Glenfield Middle School students Jacqueline Brandt, Smantha Van Scilen and Eve Cooke will provide words of reflection.

The program will include advance and retiring of colors by the Montclair Police and Fire Honor Guards; Montclair Boy Scout Troop No. 12 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and vocalist Erin Bowman will sing the National Anthem. The Montclair Community Band will perform patriotic music and Carl B. Witzig, trumpeter with the band, will play the sounding of taps.

Representatives from a number of veterans and other organizations include The Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251, Lt. Vincent J. Russo of American Legion Post 382, Daughters of the American Revolution—Eagle Rock Chapter, Disabled American Veterans, Pvt. Harvey Post 2139 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Montclair Chapter of the American Red Cross.
