Snow Cancels Montclair Council Meeting, Closes Schools Early

Montclair is bracing for a storm which could bring up to 10 inches of snow by Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A Montclair Township Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday night has been cancelled due to the storm which has Northeastern New Jersey under a winter storm warning from noon Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

All Montclair Public Schools will have an early dismissal two hours before each school's regular dismissal time, the district announced.

All return-home bus schedules will run two hours earlier than regular times. 

After-school activities are cancelled. YMCA after-care will be open, but parents are urged to pick up their children as early as possible.   

Recycling and bulky waste will be collected on Wednesday, township officials said. However, items buried in the snow will not be picked up.

The senior citizen bus was suspended for the afternoon and there will be no evening shuttle service Tuesday night.

The senior bus is tentatively scheduled to resume service Wednesday for the afternoon routes, weather permitting. The evening shuttle is anticipated to resume service Wednesday evening.

On the first day of the spring semester, classes at Montclair State University will be canceled starting at 12:45 p.m. All campus offices will be closed and activities canceled starting at 2 p.m.

Montclair Recreation Department programs scheduled for Tuesday are canceled.

The agenda items scheduled for Tuesday's council meeting will be considered at the Jan. 28 meeting.
