Music, Film and Tai-Chi on Tap for the Week in Montclair

There's lots going on this week, including a fundraiser for the Montclair Operetta Club and Family Fun Night at Applegate Farm.

The summer may be winding down but are fun activities to do this week in Montclair.

Enjoy live music Monday nights through August on the plaza at the Bellevue Avenue Library. This Monday’s performer is 13 Hands Dalien/Daniel McBride (world music)

Terra Tea and Fair Trade at the Isabel Rose Cafe, 50 S Fullerton Ave., Montclair
Tuesday 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.
T'ai chi ch'uan principles apply globally to walking, martial application, bodywork, or any other activity for which economy of motion and efficiency of effort are desired. Each class will begin with a warm-up session designed to limber up the body and promote flexibility of all connective tissue, and will include Chi Gung (Energy Arts) exercises. After each class, enjoy a cup of healthy and delicious tea. Tea Specialist and owner Grace Grund will share a different variety each week and educate participants about that tea. Cost: $3-5 per class.

Signature Roles Film Festival
Montclair Public Library, 50 S. Fullerton Ave., Montclair
Wednesday 1 p.m.
This week’s movie is “Alice Adams”, starring Katherine Hepburn. "Alice Adams" remains one of Katharine Hepburn’s most memorable performances and it’s the role that defined her in the 1930s. Hepburn’s characterization of the Booth Tarkington character is the one that launched a thousand Hepburn impersonations. Hepburn is the title character, a small-town girl of humble means with aspirations to the upper class. Alice Adams is an alternately sweet, awkward, heartbreaking, and amusing film with the “Hollywood Ending” that Depression-era audiences loved.

“MOC is known for its rich, full orchestra sound,” says Valencia. “While many theatre companies are cutting down on the number of musicians or using pre-recorded music we are striving to provide the fullest sounding accompaniments with the best local musicians. This fundraiser will help ensure that patrons of our upcoming production of Oliver! in November, as well as our Spring musical will experience the scores as the writers intended.” Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple, available in advance or at the door. Admission includes music and light food with all proceeds going to support the orchestra budget for the 2012-2013 season.
