WHY GO:   Updated to post-WWII, the young men returning from the war are disaffected, restless and rebellious, questioning all authority. Hamlet has thrown himself into this philosophy at university, but finds the real thing when he is summoned home after the death of his father, the King; and, the marriage of his mother to his uncle, who now claims the throne. Confronted with the spirit of his father demanding revenge for his death, Hamlet begins a journey that leads to betrayals, treasons, madness and murder.

WHY GO:   This collection day provides residents a place to properly and safely dispose of contaminants. Materials being collected include pesticides and herbicides, paint thinners and solvents, oil-based paint, chemistry sets, barbecue propane tanks, pool chemicals, photo developing chemicals, household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, products that contain mercury, car batteries, home fire extinguishers, aerosol spray paint and automotive fluids.

WHY GO:    Visitors to OctoberFest can go on canoe trips on the Passaic River or nature walks in Essex County’s West Essex Park. There will be a petting zoo, gardening tips, a live beehive display, woodturning demonstrations, pumpkin carving demonstrations, nature arts and crafts, face painting, free refreshments, a pumpkin patch maze and display tables from a variety of eco-vendors. Admission is free.

WHY GO:    On the 50th anniversary of Roger Maris' 61st home run, storyteller Andy Strasberg will present the unique tale of his touching relationship with his Yankee hero.

WHY GO:    A day of great music, dancing, story telling and community, in support of an incredible organization! All donations and food purchases will go to Lamp for Haiti’s vital programs that strive to ensure basic human rights in Cité Soleil and Port-au-Prince. In the event of rain we will move inside The Van Vleck House.
COST:        Tickets are $20 per person for an all day music pass however $10 per person will be accepted if that is all you can afford. We will work out discounted rates for large families who express hardship but want to be a part of the day.

WHY GO:   In August Dimitri was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. Proceeds of this fundraiser will go to help his family pay the costs of mounting medical and other bills.

WHY GO:    Celebrate World African Penguin Day by visiting the zoo's flock of African Penguins at the Penguin Coast Exhibit. Home to a flock of endangered African Penguins, the zoo participates in the penguin species survival plan breeding program.  No! African is not a misprint. This is now the official name for the black footed penguin that lives on the rocky shores around southwest Africa. The climate is very much like New Jersey’s and so the zoo’s African penguins are very comfortable living here.  
COST:         Children & Seniors $7, Adults $10, Children under 2 are free.

WHY GO:     The Montclair Public Library Gallery will be exhibiting the work of photographer Scot Surbeck from October 1 to 31. Surbek’s exhibition is titled "CityClickr - The City Seen", and will feature New York City street photography in fifty large scale color and black and white images.

WHY GO:      Local Montclair High School students invite the community of Montclair and surrounding cities to enjoy 4 films which celebrate Hispanic heritage and its cultural influences. No registration required. This week's film: Elsa and Fred - When the retired seventy-seven years old hypochondriac widower Fred moves to an apartment in Madrid, his temperamental daughter Cuca has an incident with his next door neighbor, the elder Argentinean Elsa. Later, they meet each other and Elsa seduces Fred with her reckless behavior and view of life and they have a romance.
