What You Need to Know About Skating and Sledding in Montclair

Edgemont and Mountainside parks are popular spots for winter fun.

Two popular spots for ice skating and sledding in Montclair are Edgemont Pond and the big hill at Mountainside Park.

The Township's Department of Recreation released details this week about using the pond and park safely for winter activities.

The pond at Edgemont Park opens for skating when the ice is deemed to be thick enough. A red flag posted at the park denotes it is unsafe, while a green flag indicates that skating is permitted.

After a significant snowfall and once the street has been plowed, Upper Mountain Avenue closes between Windsor Place and Mt. Hebron Road to allow for supervised sledding at Mountainside Park. Sleigh riding is permitted on weekends, holidays and school snow days from noon to 4 p.m.
