A Week of Events With An International Flavor

Celebrating St. Joseph's, the Moscow Ballet, and Other Highlights this next week in and around Montclair.

No need to travel abroad—this weekend several international events will be visiting our area. (And a lovely concert as well). Italian food on the Avenue, Russian ballet and a pet circus, and Japanese Kodo drummers bring a bit of the exotic to Essex County. These and other events are highlighted below for your entertainment in the coming days. If you have other suggestions add them to the comments!

Why Go? Russian circus and juggling star Gregory Popovich and his talented cast of performing pets stage hilarious stunts and skits in this delightful treat for animal lovers young and old!

Why Go? The story of a beautiful girl condemned to die, but saved by a century-long sleep, who wakes to find love with a dashing prince is a timeless, classic ballet.

3. Concert series at St. Luke's Episcopal on S. Fullerton—"Journey of the Soul" by Schola Cantorum on Hudson.

Where/When: Sunday, March 20 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

Why Go? The next concert series in Schola Cantorum continues the theme of 'freedom' with a close examination of how genuine freedom relates to the fullness of our true individuality. Within each of us, it can be argued, are two different realities—the conscious self and a ‘shadow self’ which can become an ‘internal adversary’ if not integrated. The interaction of these dual realities resonates throughout all our lives, and is the shared element of the human journey that is explored in this concert.

Why Go? Sonny's on the Avenue will celebrate St. Joseph's Day with a weekend-long special Sicilian/Italian menu, featuring seafood.

Traditionally, the Feast of St. Joseph is celebrated during Lent on March 19, and Sonny's will offer seafood-centered menu choices keeping with the Lenten season. St. Joseph's Pastry (creme filled pastry topped with cherries) will be the featured dessert.

6. The Montclair Council of PTAs invites you to a screening of "Our Schools Our Town."

Where/When: On Thursday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Montclair Public Library Auditorium, 50 South Fullerton Avenue. 6:30 p.m. is the reception and 7 p.m. is the screening.

Why Go? To learn about Montclair's award-winning magnet schools, the work that PTAs do in our schools, and an opportunity to ask questions of current public school families.
