Comedy Central Suspends Colbert Report Without Explanation

The move has sparked widespread speculation about what's happening with the satirical news show

Comedy Central has suspended production of the Colbert Report for at least two days, a mysterious announcement that sparked widespread speculation on a variety of social networks about what's happening with the popular satirical news show, according to Reuters and other media outlets.

According to Comedy Central, the show aired a repeat episode on Wednesday and would again on Thursday due to "unforeseen circumstances," but did not elaborate. The show generally doesn't tape new episodes on Fridays.

The suspension comes in the midst of the Republican primary season, usually an important period for the show headlined by Montclair resident Stephen Colbert.

Audience members scheduled to attend Wednesday’s taping of the show said they had been sent notices saying that the taping was canceled and that they would have to make new reservations for a later date.
