Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics
Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics
September 28, 2012 – January 6, 2013
Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics is the first solo museum exhibition by the acclaimed multimedia artist and the second in MAM’s New Directions series of contemporary art exhibitions. Encompassing installation, sculpture, textiles, painting, video, and performance art, Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics will feature new work created especially for MAM, including sculptures based on objects from the Museum’s collection of Native American art; videos commissioned for the large-scale outdoor video monitors on its grounds; and a performance developed and performed by the artist in collaboration with students from Montclair State University’s Department of Theater and Dance. Woolfalk’s vibrant, interactive work blends fantasy, humor, and play to address fundamental questions about how people define themselves and each other in today’s global culture. Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics is organized by Alexandra Schwartz, curator of contemporary art. MAM is open Wed - Sun.
