What To Do In And Around Montclair This Weekend!

There is something for everyone the next few days

WHAT: 
WHERE:  Edgemont Memorial Park
WHEN:     Friday 11am
WHY GO   The program will include Township Manager Marc D. Dashield as Master of Ceremonies. Post Commander Cheryl Turner of Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251 will be the speaker.  Gabriel Umar of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop No. 12 will provide a reflection. The Rev. Steve Worthing of Unity of Montclair will give the invocation and benediction.  Also attending will be representatives from veterans organizations, including the Crawford Crews American Legion Post 251, Lt. Vincent J. Russo American Legion Post 382, Disabled American Veterans, DAR Eagle Rock Chapter, and members of the Montclair Red Cross.  The Montclair Community Band will perform immediately prior to and after the ceremony, and the band's trumpeter Carl B. Witzig will sound Taps.  The Montclair Honor Guard will open the program with the Advance of Colors and will conclude the ceremony with the Retirement of Colors.
In the event of rain, services will be held in the Council Chambers of the Montclair Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Ave.

WHY GO:   The play belongs to the school of drama known as the Theatre of the Absurd Theatre. Over the course of three acts, the inhabitants of a small, provincial French town turn into rhinoceros ultimately the only human who does not succumb to this mass metamorphosis is the central character, Bérenger.

Evening begins with a pot luck at 6 pm and follows at 7 pm with community singing lead by members of the UU Congregation’s “Dirt Band.” The goal is fun! No judgments made, no particular skill or talent required! If you play an instrument, bring it along. All our welcome. Please bring your voice, your instrument, any music you might want to share, and of course a dish to share!

WHY GO:  Get a jump start on your holiday shopping and support this great cause.  It's the Pound Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Annual Holiday Bazaar and Tricky Tray Event.  PAWS (Pound Animal Welfare Society of Montclair Inc.) is dedicated to finding good homes for the many abandoned and unwanted cats and dogs in our community.
COST:   Admission is only $1, and all proceeds will benefit the PAWS Animal Shelter.

City Green, a community garden and educational programming non-profit organization operating in Clifton, Paterson, Jersey City, and other urban areas, will hold their annual Fall Fundraiser, a  “Farm to Table Tasting Event” at the historic VanVleck House and Gardens.    There will be live music and delicious seasonal foods, many of which will be harvested from the City Green urban farm in Paterson and the new City Green Schultheis’ Farm in Clifton.   Music and refreshments will be served in the beautiful VanVleck mansion and outdoor patio.

WHY GO:  At 108 Orange Road, tour the Israel Crane House, a home built in 1796 that was occupied first by the Crane family and then by the YWCA of Montclair-North Essex, serving as a social center and home for African American women.  Also stop in to see the schoolroom and general store at the Nathaniel Crane House.  Next, head over to 30 North Mountain Avenue and tour the remarkable Charles Shultz House. Built in 1896, this 3-story, 21 room Victorian remained in the Shultz family for 3 generations.  It’s like stepping into a time capsule.  Tours at our Orange Road site begin promptly at 1 and 2 pm; the Shultz House tours begin at 3:30

WHY GO:  You asked for it so we are starting it - a kid's embroidery group at Rock Paper Scissors! Bring along an embroidery project, or even just an idea for one, and spend the afternoon stitching and chatting with new friends. The stitching revolution has hit the new generation in a big way! See what all the hype is about. Stitching is fun and creative and relaxing. It is a great introduction to the crafting world, very inexpensive to get into and has the added charm of instant gratification for the kids! There is no formal instruction but an adult stitcher will always meet with the group to teach people how to transfer and stitch when they need it.
