A Mountainside-based company specializing in discounted, high-end home appliances has opened its flagship store in Upper Montclair.
The former longtime home of The Banyan Tree at 208 Bellevue Ave. is now lined with kitchen vignettes designed to let shoppers experience appliances before deciding on these big-ticket items.
Customers can do more than just look. In-store cooking demonstrations will be held regularly and high-end espresso machines may be put to the test on a daily basis.
Premium brands available include Miele, Viking, DCS, Electrolux, KitchenAid, Lynx, Fisher Paykel, Weber, Bertazzoni, Fhiaba, SMEG and Thermador.
Designer Appliances was founded by three homeowners with young children seeking to improve the experience of shopping for ranges, refrigerators and the like, according to a release from the company.
The business has catapulted from the New Jersey Institute of Technology's business incubator to one of the fastest growing companies, landing at No. 35 on Crain’s 2013 Fast 50 list.
According to Crain’s, Designer Appliances saw a 75.1% growth rate over a three-year period and reported $16.2 million in revenue in 2012.
