Sugee Among Fave Businesses Closing Down

Montclair Beadworks, Five Guys, and now Sugee have either closed or are closing ... what's next?

First it was at 43 Church Street that announced it was closing at the end of this year.

Owner Mary Ann Cucci recently announced she had been unable to find a buyer for her popular store and so will close after eight years in the business.

Then, earlier this week, another business especially popular with the pre-teen and teen set——picked up and left its Upper Montclair location without scarcely a word to anyone.

This Montclair Patch editor has heard from many area residents that they hope another burger restaurant—such as a Smashburger—open in the location at 622 Valley Road.

And now the latest news— Montclair storefront in Watchung Plaza will be closing at the end of January 2012.

Owner Amy Rusby wrote on Sugee's Facebook page, "our lease is up. We will continue to sell awesome stuff online and at events/cons as always. Thanks to everyone who supported us over the past 3 years!"

Sugee has been a well-loved spot for area kids seeking Japanese-inspired items. Kids have gathered here to sell their own handmade items, plus participate in art contests and watch anime screenings.

No doubt the business will be sorely missed.

So what's left? At leastat 15 Bloomfield Avenue is still around, as is the Waffle House on Bellevue Avenue in Upper Montclair. We hope they stay that way!
