Montclair Business Scene Shakeups

Some businesses are closing their doors; others are opening up shop.

 

"We don't discriminate between people and pets."

That was the motto espoused by the owners of a home and gift boutique for people and pets that celebrated its grand opening only last October.

Located at 547 Valley Road, the unique shop is nearly directly across the street from the pet store in Upper Montclair known as

But now, according to a new sign on the window, the owners appear to be liquidating their inventory and closing down.

The store is closed on Mondays so Montclair Patch will check in with the owners on Tuesday.

Another recently opened business that is now selling its contents and closing down is Four Eyes & Ears at 47 Watchung Plz.

Owner Thomas Hanus celebrated a grand opening at that location just two months ago, in mid-March, that was attended by Mayor Jerry Fried and Deputy Mayor Kathryn Weller-Demming.

But, on a positive note, , is poised to open "within weeks" in the space formerly occupied by Five Guys Burgers and Fries at 622 Valley Rd. in Upper Montclair.

"I'm a true, real Italian and not a want-to-be Italian," said owner Valter Cianni, adding confidently that "this place is going to be great."

And the Berry Sweet yogurt shop looks set to open soon in the space formerly occuped by Sugee in Watchung Plaza.

Comfort Food Kitchen is another business that plans to open soon in Watchung Plaza, at 54 Fairfield Street by June.

Muscle Maker Grill was due to open up in the former Mexicali Rose space at 10 Park Street near Bloomfield Avenue by May 1 but signs in the window still say "coming soon."

Founded in 1995 by Rod Silva, Muscle Maker Grill eateries offer "freshly prepared Italian and Tex-Mex wraps, pastas, Asian entrees, salads, burgers and more," according to its website.

Finally, a men and women's clothing store called South Moon Under is set to open June 2 on South Park Street right by Urban Outfitters.
