Purrs and Paws, a new pet shop working with area animal rescue agencies, will open at 547 Valley Road on Sept. 15.
The location formerly housed Well Feathered Nest, a home and gift boutique for people and pets that closed in May after being open only six months.
Purrs and Pets is almost directly across from Iggy's Place, a pet store struggling to stay open at 540 Valley Road.
But the two establishments will be very different.
Although the owners say both will sell pet food and toys, Purrs and Paws will feature pet photography by Beth Burstein.
Unlike Iggy's, Purrs and Paws also will have no animals onsite for adoption although the business will display lists of adoptable pets from rescue organizations.
Last month, that his business may have to close due to a dramatic drop in business.
He told Patch that business had fallen by about 50 percent in the last several months.
However, just last week, he said business had improved and that he planned to keep Iggy's open—at least in the near future.
Currently, Iggy's is the only pet shop in Upper Montclair and one of only two in Montclair. Montclair Feed & Pet Supply is located at 191 Glenridge Avenue in Montclair.
When asked about the new pet shop, Heaps said he'd heard "something" was opening up across the street.
"It might be good for business actually ... but I hope they have deep pockets and a long-term plan!," he said.
