Theyrrrrrr Back- From College- And Now WHAT?

So many adult children today either receive financial support or even live at home post graduation from high school or college.
It has become relatively common for family courts to receive Separation Agreements which include support for older or adult children.
Some ideas of issues that you might want to consider including in your Divorce Agreement could include:

  • Ancillary college expenses such as books, health insurance not covered under the college plan, college trips, sports costs, ancillary food costs
  • Not specific to college but certainly needed are computers, cell phones, cars and car insurance
  • Graduate school and/or phd. programs
  • Living expenses such as rent, food costs, etc. whether at home, with roommates or on their own
Most courts do not consider emancipated children but that does not mean that you and your spouse, in your divorce agreement, can not address present or future issues and costs related to them. If you have an 11 year old, you probably can't imagine what expenses to anticipate going forward. We have mentioned just a few. Certainly there are many more.
