POLL: What's Your Favorite Deli?

What's a great place to get sandwiches where you live?

Perhaps it's the fresh bread, savory meats and cheeses or homemade salads?

Maybe it's the personality of the folks behind the counter.

But everybody has a deli that's special to them. I mean, it's New Jersey after all.

Maybe you like to get pastrami on rye, mozzarella and prosciutto, or fresh turkey on a roll.

But whatever you order, you keep going back there for a reason.

This week, share with us the name of your favorite deli. And, if you like, tell us why you like it in the comments section. We'll publish the results on Friday. And, in the meantime, bon appetit!

Alan's Ave. Deli The sandwiches are named after Montclair Streets!! Can't get more local than than a "Claremont on Rye, with a side a slaw."

Just Sandwiches in Glenridge "It's an institution" You'll feel like you're in a FRIENDLY sandwich shop in New Hamphire. Yet you are 2 minutes from Montclair on Bloomfield. Visit, you'll be back. Andrew Wander Montclair

Jackie's Grillette in Upper Montclair village --- Everything they make is extraordinary and their Big Bang may be the best sandwich ever concocted.

I like Little's Phil's and Rosario's (in Watchung Plaza)! Little Phil's has a lot of great things to try (from sandwiches to cookies). Rosario's has some super Italian food, notably meats and cheeses, and should be included in the poll.

All added! Now vote everyone! Obviously there are lots of great delis in Montclair.

Little Phils, great food, bad locale....when the other use real chicken cutlets, let me know.

Watchung Deli has good salads but I am done buying sandwiches there (other than Benny Macs for my son). I recently ordered roast beef and cheddar cheese here there and I'm not kidding you there were two slices of cheese and three slices of meat. About 1/4 inch of meat/chees on the roll. Uh, not for $8. Rosarios is the way to go. Long live the Rocky Balboa.

Is Samba a deli though? I would think it's more of a sit down restaurant.
Tama Flynn May 14, 2012 at 03:39 PM
Samba is a sit down restaurant, and a really nice one at that, but his breakfast and lunch delivery orders are voluminous. I go in quite often during the week for a late breakfast/early lunch and the phone never stops ringing for delivery orders. His food is fresh and the service is wonderful. Tama Flynn

Thanks Tama.. I think Samba is fantastic.. but I don't think I'd classify it as a deli..

Grove St. Deli - old school Italian.

You will not find a better meatball provolone sub than Just Sandwiches. Rosario's is also quite good.

Thanks Louis..

I'd cast a vote for Cafe Clair, in Watchung Plaza, right next door to Mr. Dino's. Great subs, good portions and a friendly staff make for a good experience. They're the only sandwiches I'll get in town anymore.
Shelley Emling (Editor) May 14, 2012 at 09:34 PM
I will have to check them out Matt.

I'll add a vote for Jackie's Grillette. Excellent sandwiches

Not only is the food at Watchung Deli great, there couldn't be nicer group of owners. They are a Montclair institution--so glad to seem them leading the pack here.

We love Cafe Claire too , Matt! Especially their roast beef sandwiches!! Always fast, friendly and reasonable prices!! Can't be beat. Large selection of beverages in fridge cases.
