Student Safety 'Highest Priority,' Says Superintendent

New Montclair District Superintendent Penny MacCormack releases statement following school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Superintendent of Montclair Schools Penny MacCormack recently released the following statement regarding school safety in the district.

The press release comes days after the , which left 20 children and seven adults dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The Montclair Public Schools district takes the security and safety of our children very seriously.   The district has security procedures in place for all schools – schools are locked, unauthorized visitors are restricted and safety procedures are routinely practiced.  I have been in contact with the Montclair Police Department to affirm that the district and the police department have a coordinated approach to school safety and are working together effectively to make sure that our students, teachers and other faculty members are safe.
