The Week Ahead: Council Conference, BOE Meeting, 1st Ward Community Forum

Monday 

• The Montclair Board of Education will convene at 7:30 p.m. in the George Inness Annex, at 141 Park St.  

• A 1st Ward community meeting will be held at 8 p.m. at the Bellevue Avenue Branch Library, at 185 Bellevue Ave. First Ward Councilor William Hurlock will host the meeting. The meeting is open to everyone.

Tuesday

• The Montclair Township Council will convene for a conference meeting at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave. The agenda has yet to be posted. 

Wednesday

• The Woman's Club of Upper Montclair's Christmas concert will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the club, at 200 Cooper Ave. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (973) 744-9138. 

• The Montclair Board of Adjustments will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave. 

Thursday 

• The Montclair Civil Rights Commission will meet shortly at 7:30 p.m. in the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave., which will be immediately followed by its holiday dinner. 

Friday 

• Today is the winter solstice. The sun will skirt along its lowest path above the horizon and will mark the shortest day of 2012. The astronomical event will also begin the transition to longer days and shorter nights. 

• The 4th Ward's annual Coat and Toy Drive will collect new and slightly used coats for children aged 1 to 17 in the following locations:

• Montclair Neighborhood Development Corp., at 228 Bloomfield Ave., 
• Montclair Grass Roots, at 45 Maple Ave. 
• Investors Bank Montclair Branch, at 536 Bloomfield Ave. 

The annual drive is sponsored by Crawford Crews, 4th Ward Collaborative, FOP, Grassroots, Investors Bank, MFEE, MNDC, NAACP, Sentinel 16. 

The annual Christmas party will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Park House in Glenfield Park today. 

Free Holiday Parking 

Don't worry about feeding the meters this week. Montclair Township will be providing free two-hour parking at all bagged meters until Dec. 26. Those who park beyond the two-hour limit will be ticketed.
