Two Montclair Eateries Ranked Among State's Best

Inside Jersey names Escape and Pig & Prince to "Top 10 New Restaurants" list.

Inside Jersey magazine released its ranking of the state’s 10 best new restaurants, and two Montclair eateries made the list.

Chef Bryan Gregg's Escape has brought upscale Southern cuisine to Montclair's already varied restaurant scene. Inside Jersey touted Gregg's cornmeal madeleine, kohlrabi gratin side dish and called the pork tenderloin "exceptional."

The magazine calls Michael Carrino's one-year-old Pig & Prince, located within the spectacularly restored former Lackawanna Railroad Station, a "modern culinary spectacle worth attending." While the restaurant is known for its cured meats, which can be seen from a window in the dining room, praise was also given to Carrino's spaetzle, risotto and "cheeky" desserts.

Nico Kitchen+Bar, located at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, also made the list for signature dishes like squid ink cavatelli with octopus and desserts like the Sicilian sundae.

The restaurant is named for the son of chef Ryan DePersio, who also owns Fascino in Montclair.
