Week Ahead: School, Council Meetings and More

Monday

• The Montclair School Board will convene at 7:30 p.m. in the George Inness Annex, 141 Park St. The agenda for the upcoming meeting can be found by clicking here. 

• The Montclair Housing Commission will meet at 7 p.m. in the second floor conference room of the Montclair Fire Department Headquarters, at 1 Pine St. 

Tuesday

• The Montclair Township Council will convene for a meeting at 7 p.m. in the first floor council chambers of the municipal building, at 205 Claremont Ave. The upcoming agenda can be found by clicking here.  

• The Newark Mentoring Movement will host a mentor fair at noon at 350 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Newark.

Fifteen mentoring programs in Newark have signed on to hold booths at the fair in hopes to recruit dedicated individuals to become mentors in the community.

At the fair, mentors will find the program that is the right fit for them, such as donating four hours a month or more or working with fourth-graders or high school seniors. The NMM will work to match you with a program that is a right fit for you.

There will be music, food, and free Barnum and Bailey tickets!

The NMM is nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the community through positive mentoring relationships.

Skating and Sleigh Riding Guidelines

Montclair Township' Recreation Department announced that Edgemont Pond will be open for ice skating when weather and ice conditions permit.

Flags will be posted at Edgemont Park to let the public know if the ice is safe to skate on. A red flag means the ice is unsafe to skate on. A green flag indicates skating is permitted.

After a large snowfall and the street has been plowed, Upper Mountain Avenue will be closed between Windsor Place and Mt. Hebron Road to allow for supervised sleigh riding at Mountainside Park. 

The park will be open for sleigh riding on weekends, holidays and school snow days between noon and 4 p.m.
