Art Lecture: Art of the Dutch Golden Age, with Suzanne Altman

Explore the reasons that the Dutch Golden Age produced so many beloved artists, among them Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Hals, and examine some of their works in depth, many of which have rarely been exhibited in the U.S.
This lecture accompanies the exciting exhibit of paintings from the Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis, The Hauge, coming to the Frick Collection from October 22, 2013 to January 19, 2014. This prestigious Dutch museum, which has lent a large body of works from its holdings in nearly thirty years, is undergoing an extensive two-year renovation that makes this opportunity possible.
Among the works going on tour are the famous Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer and The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius, neither of which will have been seen by American audiences in ten years.
