Award-Winning Filmmaker Maxi Cohen to Screen Groundbreaking Documentary at Montclair State University

Award-winning filmmaker Maxi Cohen will screen her groundbreaking film Joe and Maxi at Montclair State University on March 25, 2014 at 7:00pm in Room 1040 of University Hall.

Cohen’s documentary Joe and Maxi, filmed in Cape May, NJ in the early 1970’s, is an intimate and revealing portrait of the relationship between Maxi and her father Joe. It was born of Cohen’s desire to get to know her father following the death of her mother, but ended up centering on Joe’s diagnosis of cancer and subsequent death.

Maxi Cohen’s films, photographs, and multimedia installations have been exhibited internationally and are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum for American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX, the Israel Museum, and the National Gallery of Canada.
A discussion, Q&A, and preview of Cohen’s latest project will follow the screening of Joe and Maxi.
